Mr. Hoodong LEE is the head of BKL's IP Group and Japan Practice Group. With over 20 years of IP practice experience, Mr. Lee has litigated diverse patent, trademark, copyright and trade secrets cases, acting for clients in a wide range of industries including manufacturing, technology, pharmaceutical, semi-conductor, and media & entertainment. Mr. Lee also represents clients in connection with IP licensing and transactional matters, and routinely advises both Korean and Japanese clients on issues involving the interface between intellectual property and antitrust issues. Some of Mr. Lee’s representative clients include Mitsubishi, Sumitomo, Sharp, Fujifilm, and Nikon
Mr. Lee received his LL.M from Tokyo University Graduate School of Law in 1998. From 1997 to 1998, Mr. Lee worked as a visiting attorney at Mori Sogo Law Offices (now Mori Hamada & Matsumoto) and Oh-Ebashi Law Offices. Building upon his unique education and work experience in Japan, Mr. Lee has focused his legal practice on representing Japanese clients in the field of IP law. A member of the Korean Bar since 1991, Mr. Lee was the first Korea-qualified lawyer registered as a Foreign Law Consultant (Gaikokuho Jimu Bengoshi) with the Japan Federations of Bar Associations. Mr. Lee was the managing partner of BKL’s Tokyo office from 2002 to 2007, where he advised Japanese corporate clients on Korean law.
Mr. Lee currently serves as a director for the Korea Entertainment Law Society, and is a member of the INTA, AIPPI and LES. He is also an arbitrator with the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and a member of the Internet Address Dispute Resolution Committee of Korea. Mr. Lee also served as a director for the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) (1999-2004) and a member of the Korea Copyright Commission (2009-2012),. Mr. Lee is a frequent lecturer at seminars hosted by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation, Japan Intellectual Property Association, LES Japan and JETRO and at law schools, where he lectures on Korean IP law.
